DJ Gunx (Sher Afgan)

Name: Sher Afgan
Nickname: Sheray, Afgan, Shotgun, Guns, DJ
Date of birth: 21-Nov-1991
Favorite dish: I’m a true desi and can’t resist the classic Chicken Biryani.

Islo Times : Who inspired you to become a DJ?? Inspirations?
Dj Guns : I should be saying the normal clichรฉ of being inspired by someone, but I think for me inspiration comes from within. My love for music and the courage of believing that I can do it is what inspired me to be what I wanted to be, a DJ. It is important to inspire yourself, because being inspired by others can fade from time to time but being inspired from the depth of your core lasts for good.

Islo Times :  While becoming a DJ did your family supported you?
Dj Guns : The support of my family is a balanced one. They have been supportive of me, in terms that I support them back by finishing my degree. I have no restrictions in my field being a DJ, as long as I don’t forget my university studies and deadlines. My mom is a really cool person who does not complain about the rack of noises when practicing. Not all household is pleasant about loud banging of music from the speakers you know!

Islo Times : What else do you do except DJing?
Dj Guns : Currently, I am on a pause study from the Erasmus University Rotterdam of Netherlands to pursue work experience. I work as an Assistant Program Manager at a non-profit organization centre, for arts, culture and dialogue. Besides that, when my busy schedule allows me I’m just like any normal bloke who enjoys lazy days with friends and family, watching a movie, relaxing or playing football. Football I must say is one of my expertises. Care for a match?

Islo Times : How did you start DJing? What was your age when you started mixing sounds?
Dj Guns : Music has always been my fascination. It’s my own source of therapy. My relationship with music changed when I started to fiddle and experiment djing virtually at the age of 16. The experimenting turned into more than a hobby and I said to myself why not go all the way? Next thing you know, I’ve purchased myself my first mixer, set up a mini stage at home, practiced long hours, landed my first gig and like they say the rest is history.

Islo Times : Who's throwing the best parties at the moment?
Dj Guns : I think FCCM is doing a brilliant job, bringing talented, fantastic DJs from one of the world renowned brands such as Ministry of Sound (MOS).

Islo Times : What's the best event you've played at?
Dj Guns : Errr, the one at Club Escape in Amsterdam I’d say. Since I was playing alongside a good friend Mehran Khan of Tranquilizer. It was pretty much an alnighter!

Islo Times: Was there any embarrassing moment when you were DJing?
Dj Guns : Oh, definitely! It was in one of my gigs when the system crashed and I had no back up for around 40 seconds. You see 40 seconds is not that long but when you’re in front of a crowd, with all eyes on you expecting the abrupt stop of music to come back, it seems like an eternity!

Islo Times : When was the first time you performed in front of a large audience?
Dj Guns : Performing, the ‘Pakistan Mela 2012’ in Amsterdam, last June alongside Hadiqa Kiyani and Imran Khan. It was one of the first major gigs I had, playing in front of thousands of people. The energy of the audience and the atmosphere was exciting and superbly manic.

Islo Times : What's your favorite tune of all time?
Dj Guns : The song ‘Whiskey Lullaby’ by Brad Paisley. There’s something about the lyrics and the song that sends a tragic beautiful chill to your soul.

Islo Times : Funniest thing that ever happened at an event?
Dj Guns : Indeed! It was at a private event when the entire party was crashed because the mother met the daughter at a very impropriate level of soberness. Haha unbelievable times never to be forgotten with memories that will stay with me forever.

Islo Times : What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Dj Guns : Determination and patience are my key strengths. Weaknesses, hmmm. I can be stubborn-headed at times and waking up early in the morning! I’m not much of a morning person.

Islo Times : What do you think in Pakistan is there any scope for DJ’s or electro music??
Dj Guns : Surprisingly as it may, Pakistanis are rapidly catching up with the whole genre of house, club and electro music. I have noticed the youngsters shying away from the usual commercial popular charts and more into the genre mentioned above. DJ’s are the craze nowadays and seems to inspire everyone to become one. I’m very proud and grateful of the current scope and platforms that is very encouraging for us DJ’s.

Islo Times : Compare yourself and DJ Tiesto ??
Dj Guns : We’re both from the Netherlands and can speak dutch! (Laughs) On a serious note, DJ Tiesto is someone who is a veteran in this industry, his achievements are steps ahead than mine of course. But it’s safe to say that like DJ Tiesto I like to experiment and that my genre is not restricted to one.

Islo Times: Where do you see yourself in next few years ??
Dj Guns : Hopefully, producing my own music and signed then by a record label, releasing records. InshAllah.

Islo Times: What are the major achievements you have got till now??
Dj Guns: I feel blessed that I have achieved the things I set my mind to so far. However, I believe I’m still waiting for that one major moment to come.

Islo Times: What is your relationship status???
Dj Guns : Oh, is this a trick question? (Laughs) I’m lucky to have a great relationship with a wonderful woman whom is both a friend and my support in all things I do.

Islo Times : How do you connect with your fans?
Dj Guns : Making my audience and fans dance to every tune, with their hands waving in the air, is the time I feel connected to them the most.

Islo Times: This is your chance to deliver your message to your fans...what is it ???

DJ Guns : First of all, big thank you, for your endless kind support. Nothing in life is achieved without hard work and patience, but most of all you need to believe in yourself and mostly have faith to that one superior being. You can stay connected, through my;

Really heart touching Story of a little Boy,

I was walking around in a Big Bazar store making shopping, when I saw
a Cashier talking to a boy couldn’t have been more than 5 or 6 years
old.
The Cashier said, ‘I’m sorry, but you don’t have enough money to buy
this doll. Then the little boy turned to me and asked: ”Uncle, are
you sure I don’t have enough money?”
I counted his cash and replied: ”You know that you don’t have enough
money to buy the doll, my dear.” The little boy was still holding the
doll in his hand.
Finally, I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give
this doll to. ‘It’s the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so
much . I wanted to Gift her for her BIRTHDAY.
I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it to my
sister when she goes there.’ His eyes were so sad while saying this.
‘My Sister has gone to be with God.. Daddy says that Mommy is going to
see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take the doll with
her to give it to my sister…”
My heart nearly stopped. The little boy looked up at me and said: ‘I
told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I
come back from the mall.’ Then he showed me a very nice photo of him
where he was laughing. He then told me ‘I want mommy to take my
picture with her so my sister won’t forget me.’ ‘I love my mommy and I
wish she doesn’t have to leave me, but daddy says that she has to go
to be with my little sister.’ Then he looked again at the doll with
sad eyes, very quietly..
I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. ‘Suppose we check
again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll?”
‘OK’ he said, ‘I hope I do have enough.’ I added some of my money to
his with out him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough
for the doll and even some spare money.
The little boy said: ‘Thank you God for giving me enough money!’
Then he looked at me and added, ‘I asked last night before I went to
sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, so
that mommy could give It to my sister. He heard me!” ‘I also wanted
to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy, but I didn’t
dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll
and a white rose. My mommy loves white roses.’
I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I
started. I couldn’t get the little boy out of my mind. Then I
remembered a local
news paper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a
truck, who hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl. The
little girl died right away, and the mother was left in a critical
state. The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the
life-sustaining machine, because the young woman would not be able to
recover from the coma. Was this the family of the little boy?
Two days after this encounter with the little boy, I read in the news
paper that the young woman had passed away.. I couldn’t stop myself as
I bought a bunch of white roses and I went to the funeral home where
the body of the young woman was exposed for people to see and make
last wishes before her burial. She was there, in her coffin, holding a
beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and
the doll placed over her chest. I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling
that my life had been changed for ever…
The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is
still, to this day, hard to imagine. And in a fraction of a second, a
drunk driver had taken all this away from him.
Please DO NOT DRINK & DRIVE.
Now you have 2 choices:
1) Share this message, or
2) Ignore it as if it never touched your heart.

Name : Nabeel Zaman Khan

Stage Name: EnZeKay

Nickname: Enze, Beel

D.O.B: 27/01/19911

Favorite Food: Chicken Birayani wink

Zodiac Sign: Aquarius

Islotimes: While becoming a singer did your family supported you ??
Nabeel: Yes, since the very beginning my family supported me to their full capacity. They paid for my Studio recordings which is quite an expensive expense. Mostly people struggle a lot before they reach the point where they could get Professional studio recordings. I did struggle in music but I had these resources from the start due to support from my parents. My dad bought me a guitar when I was 16 which I never actually learned but it was to show that he was willing to help me as much as he could in this path.

Islotimes: What else do you do except singing ??

Nabeel: I do boxing, I play soccer a lot because I did my olevels from Jordan and as you know Arabs are soccer freaks. And I play basketball. I also like photo editing and spending time with my pets. I hang out a lot with my friends.

Islotimes: Which one is your fav movie ?
Nabeel: Shawshank Redemption

Islotimes: What was your age when you started singing ?
Nabeel: I started writing rhymes when I was 12, but I never really rapped them and that is why I had to struggle a lot with my flow, so I started rapping my rhymes when I was 16 and since than I have been working on my flow and style.

Islotimes: What's the best event you've played at ???

Nabeel:  I have performed at a lot of events, I have performed with Falak, at Gloria Jeans and Cafรฉ lounge opening and many other events but my favorite event was when I performed at my University on Media fest cause I got perform in front of all my friends who supported me a lot so it was amazing.

Islotimes:   Was there any embarrassing moment when you were singing ?
Nabeel: Yes, I was performing at Gloria Jeans f.6 on New Year Night and I was covering a rap remix of Richard Marx song “Waiting for you” and I forgot the lyrics in the middle of the song and everybody was staring at me which was really embarrassing so I started tapping the mic to show that it wasn’t working to cover up for my mistake.

Islotimes: When was the first time you performed in front of a large audience ??
Nabeel: I performed at the Faislabad National University when I was in A-levels in front of at least 600,700 students back in 2007.

Islotimes: What's your favourite tune of all time?
Nabeel: George Michael “Careless Whisper”

Islotimes: Funniest thing that ever happened at an event?
Nabeel: I was performing at my University and the wire of my mic got stuck in the revolving globe on the stage and it kept tightening up until the wire got off from the mic and my rap part was just coming up so I gave the mic to my friend Jamal who was also on stage with me and took his mic and started rapping on it and Jamal was singing into the Off mic. Afterwards he said a lot of things to me and I just couldn’t stop laughing.

Islotimes: What are the major achievements you have got till now?
Nabeel:  Wow, now that I think of it I guess there aren’t many. Lolx. But yes I have been awarded a certificate by a German NGO “Friedrich Nauman Foundation” when I was working on Green peace back in 2004 in Jordan. I collected money for the flood affected people and went to those places to distribute whatever I bought with that cash.
I have won a medal in Basketball and Horseback riding, I have been awarded “Reader of the Month” by the National College of Jordan, I won ICS rap battle back in 2004.

Islotimes: Who's your favourite actor?
Nabeel: Al-Pacino

Islotimes: What are you studying ?
Nabeel: I am currently in the last semester of my Bachelors in Business Administration from Bahria University.

Islotimes: Relationship status?
Nabeel: Umm hmmm Single. =p

Islotimes: Describe your self in few line :
Nabeel: Well I am a very self confident person and even after a lot of let downs I kept going with the hope that I will make it someday and I still have that hope by my side. I always like to say that I go around with a smile on my face and show that nothing’s wrong because it’s called putting away your problems and being strong. Never let others bring you down because whatever happens, at the end of the day its Allah who decides who to reward and who to punish so believe in Allah, believe in yourself and keep going. And love your parents and your friends and treat them the way you want them to treat you. That’s what I do. smile

Islotimes:  Views about Islo times?
Nabeel: I think Islo times is a great blog because it helps bring small time singers like me to the real world and expose us to it which helps in our promotion. So other than just entertaining their audience with what’s new, they are helping the artists in their promotion. I have been an Islo times fan since I came to know about it and I have read all the blogs of the singers who have given their interviews and giving my interview to Islo Times is a great honour for me as well. So keep rocking in your mission and best of luck.
