Misha Khorramshahi (Interview)

Name: Misha Khorramshahi
Nickname: Mish, Mish-Mish, Mishu
DOB: September 28th, 1996
Zodiac sign: Libra
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m a 16 year old singer/song writer. I’m currently a student in grade 11, just trying to make my way through high school. I’ve been singing since I was quite young, however, later on in life I learned how to play the guitar and piano. I started my YouTube account back in 2007, but I only began making regular video posts in 2012. I usually do covers of songs that I can add my own twist to. I like all different types of music and am willing to try new things. Other than music, I’m also a cheerleader at school, and on the Table Tennis team.
Who inspired you to be singer?
A number of different people in my life have inspired me to be a singer. The one person that comes to mind would be my dear cousin Ceara. Growing up, we would sing together just for the fun of it, and she was always so supportive of my passion for singing. My parents also had a huge impact, for I would be nothing without their support. All the money, time and support that they gave me so I can attend lessons, and sing at shows, it really pushed me to become the performer that I am today. They are always supportive, but are also very critical and help me improve and grow as an artist.
Singing is it something you are passionate about or you just do it when you are bored.
I can say that it’s both. I am deeply passionate about singing and performing. If I were given the opportunity, I would love to actually continue this as a career. However, it’s also a great way for me to pass the time.
How long have you been singing for?
I’ve been singing for as long as I could remember, although I don’t think I began singing well, until I was 8 years old.
YouTube videos or performing at actual events?
I love making YouTube videos, however they take a lot of work to edit and upload, so I would say I prefer to perform at actual events. I love the adrenaline rush before I get up and go on stage, and the round of applause after every show, it just really gives me the confidence to continue what I love doing most.

Any one person who has been discouraging you or wasn’t really supporting you regarding your music scene?
I thankfully have many supporters, but there are a few times where I would have people discouraging me, and putting me down. I see it a lot on YouTube. There are always people negatively commenting on my videos, but it’s just something you have to live with, because not everyone is going to like what you do.
How much role does the sound editing software’s play in a final ready to listen song?
I actually don’t edit my sound as much as people think I do. I just add an echo to make it sound cool! I’m not very handy with the technical stuff. In my case it doesn’t matter at all, I sound the same live as I do on video.

Any one person who has been encouraging you the whole time regarding your music scene?
As I stated before, my family has been so supportive all my life. In addition to them, I would have to say my instructors, teacher’s and mentors. They have always pushed me to do better, and to strive to be the best I can be. Also, my fans on YouTube! They encourage me to continue making videos and to continue what I love doing.
Which musical instrument do you play really well?
I can play a number of different instruments, but of them all, I play the guitar the best.
What do you prefer singing solo or with a band?
I’ve played with a band before, and I’ve got to say I love it! It adds so much more instrumentals and foundation to the performance, but I don’t might going acoustic by myself either.
Is there any person who can be said the person behind your fame you’ve got till now?
I’m actually not that famous, however recently, my cover of “Love Sosa” got tweeted by Chief Keef himself, and this brought a lot of attention to my YouTube channel, and my music.
Youtube videos having 20,000+ views, walking in the hallways of school and meeting people who you don’t actually know and they know you. How does it feel?
I never really got much attention for my music until “Love Sosa” went viral. I remember coming to school on Monday, and I got stared down in the hallways. I had random people come up to me, and compliment me on my music. Even people on twitter that I didn’t know of messaged me, commenting positive things about my music. It feels so good. It’s this kind of attention that aspiring musicians like myself need, in order to gain the confidence to try new things, and make bold decisions. The amount of support I got from all the fans felt amazing. I was not used to it at first, but eventually it became normal, but I will always stay appreciative of my fans, and I will never take it for granted.

How did it feel after seeing your cover song tweeted by Chief Keef?
I woke up the next day after posting the cover, and realized that my cover was a big hit! I knew there had to be a reason for it, and soon I realized that Chief Keef tweeted it! I was so shocked, and excited! I started jumping around my house, and when I told my parents they were just as excited as I was! It was definitely a good feeling to be noticed by someone famous.
How do you interact with your fans?
I try to keep my YouTube channel updated for the fans, hoping to post at least one video per month. Usually, I try to comment, and reply to the fans who message me. However, it’s difficult to get back to every single person who does message me, but I do try my best to show my appreciation for their support.
Where do you see yourself and your music scene let’s say in next 5 years?
In the next 5 years I hope to continue to make regular YouTube videos, and to collaborate more with people like myself. I hope that once I go to University, I will meet people who can help me with my musical visions. I do write songs, however I don’t like to share them much with the public, because they’re usually personal. It would be great to have an album out, with studio versions of my favorite covers, and maybe even a few originals!
